Apple Updates iPad With A16 Chip, Higher Storage, eSIM Support

Apple has introduced an upgraded version of its entry-level iPad, incorporating the A16 chipset previously seen in the iPhone 15 series. The update also increases the base storage from 64GB to 128GB, with an additional 512GB storage option now available.

The latest iPad offers both Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + Cellular models. Pricing details for the Indian market are as follows:

Wi-Fi models:

- 128GB: Rs 34,900

- 256GB: Rs 44,900

- 512GB: Rs 64,900

Wi-Fi + Cellular models:

- 128GB: Rs 49,900

- 256GB: Rs 59,900

- 512GB: Rs 79,900

Pre-orders are now open on Apple’s official website, with sales beginning March 12. The device is available in blue, pink, yellow, and silver.

The A16 chip powers the upgraded iPad, delivering a performance boost over its predecessor. Apple claims a 30 per cent speed increase compared to the previous A14-equipped model, while the A16 outperforms the older A13 chip by up to 50 per cent. The iPad version of the A16 features a 5-core CPU and a 4-core GPU, slightly less powerful than the variant used in iPhones.

Apple estimates up to 10 hours of web browsing on a single charge. The device supports 20W charging via USB-C.

The updated iPad retains an 11-inch Liquid Retina display with a 2360x1640 resolution and 500 nits brightness. Security features include a Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button.

The rear camera includes a 12-megapixel sensor with autofocus, while the front camera, also 12 megapixels, supports Center Stage for improved video calls.

The device features Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G support for cellular models. Apple has removed the physical SIM slot, shifting exclusively to eSIM technology.

The updated iPad remains compatible with the first-generation Apple Pencil and supports the Magnetic Keyboard Folio. It includes a USB-C port for charging and external display connectivity, supporting resolutions up to 4K at 60Hz.
